Tyranny only wins when the fear it instills paralyzes and neutralizes reaction; that is, it wins when it silences conscience. And that is why it corrupts, humiliates and kills; but it always ends up succumbing, because it cannot silence those for whom this is a lost life, which has its most beautiful and honorable justification in losing it.
